Inside this guest house, which has a baby grand piano, the movement of the sun throughout the course ofР’В the day causes light to pass through ChopinРІР‚в„ўsР’В architectural scrim, allowing it to dance along the staircase, walls, and floorsР’В -Р’В even, perhaps, as the owner sits at the piano and plays the nocturne that inspired this space. The result is a musical faР“В§ade that evokes ChopinРІР‚в„ўs nocturne through the play of light and shadow, creating the effect that Goethe most likely had in mind when he wrote that РІР‚СљMusic is liquid architecture Architecture is frozen music.РІР‚СњР’В In this house you canР’В РІР‚СљseeРІР‚Сњ theР’В music in the architecture. Using the same logic that informs a player piano to play music, each note and chord was assigned a variable this informed the design of a series of perforations in the faР“В§ade that correspond to the length of time each note is held, along with its pitch. There are some less interesting moments, but at its best this is amazingly complex and could show signs of promise for Mr. Track 3 is titled 'Solitude', which could best be described as a Bach Chorale Prelude that materializes in the midst of Duke Ellington's music. There are other surprises that I won't spoil for you here, but Bach would still recognize this old warhorse. I was pleased to find, therefore, that he didn't do so.Р”В«eginning with an unusual ornament on the famous opening phrase of the toccata, though, he finds plenty of drama, in places that even Virgil Fox didn't find. I was afraid that he would tear apart works like the Toccata and Fugue in d and diminish their musical qualities.

A sickly young man, Chopin devoted his life to study of music, and it wasnt long before people noticed his prodigious genius. Me, I'm delighted! All the hype about Cameron Carpenter being a maverick is pretty overblown and was almost enough to make me pass up this disc altogether.
